09-05-2022, 11:28 PM #1VCS/GCF refuse to open when it is hot outside!
I had this issue when I flew 100s for JetSuite many years ago.
The one l fly exclusively now is #30 and has the same issue.
When you really need A/C (hot Wx) the VCS valve will not open, allowing GCF to run, cooling the aircraft.
EMB’s fix is to slightly reduce the pressure in the coolant tank by letting some of it out!
Anyone else had to put up with a 48C cockpit and 53C in the cabin? -

09-07-2022, 08:13 AM #2Are you seeing VCS Overpressure faults in your CMC? If so, Embraer is right to recommend reducing the pressure. When the VCS is serviced, it helps to have it serviced on a hot day and have the techs fill it to the low limit of pressure.

Although your suggestion when servicing makes sense! -

09-08-2022, 03:18 PM #5FOL PHE500-001/17 contains the following verbiage:
"As a preventive action, whenever frequent operations of the aircraft at
ground external temperatures greater than 40°C (104°F) are
estimated, it is recommended that the maintenance personnel reduce
the VCS refrigerant charge to 1.5 kg (3.3 pounds) in accor(Username Protected)ce with
AMM task 12-17-00-610-804-A, which should be enough to prevent
the system from reaching the high-pressure cutout level."
I haven't looked at the task referenced, but I don't imagine the FOL is in error. -

(Username Protected), as (Username Protected) says, juts follow the FOL. Most of the time it will get fixed with that. I also was with the same problem during the last couple of weeks (VCS not working with temperatures under 33 celsius, so strictly, FOL didn’t applied but I did it anyway) it was only fixed just after doing a reset, then we did some FIM’s recommended by Embraer and everything looked good, finally we added some freon (because it was a bit low) and until now, is working fine.
