Main Entry Door - Vibration and whining noise in flight
Hey all,
Has anyone had issues with main door seal or the seal on the airframe side? We recently dropped it off for a full repaint with no issues and got it back with what we believe may be door seal issues.
On climb out starting anywhere from 3000-4000 MSL we start hearing a vibration/low whining sound coming from the door area. It consistently goes away anywhere from 10000-13000 MSL.
On the descent the same noise will come back anywhere from 19000-13000 MSL and then go away again at 3000-4000 MSL.
To date, the main entry door seal along with the airframe door opening seal have been replaced and we are still hearing the noise and feeling the vibration in the door.
Has anyone experienced any similar issues? If so what ended up being the cause?
Other than having Embraer start over with replacing all of the seals and cleaning up the opening we were thinking of possible other causes such as:
- The actual door handle seal inside the door (maybe contaminated with paint)
- The opening in the door above the emergency handle contaminated with paint..(the one they tell you in
training not to stick your fingers in, can't remember the proper name:-) )
Just looking for anyone else that has had this problem or something similar and any other thoughts on the cause.
Thank you in advance for your time.

This may or may not be your issue - but worth checking the exact location that the noise is coming from:
I had a similar issue with a vibration / whining noise on climb out and descent which was difficult determine exactly where it was coming from. Resolved by taking Chris Grinnell on a flight. When the noise started - Chris determined that it was in the wing root area. Came back to maintenance and Chris used sealant to "glue down" the grey rubber seals on the wing to fuselage fairings. Never heard the noise again.
