    LED light SB coming?

Some of you may have noticed that Embraer just published a new SB (SB505-33-0010 - LIGHTS - LANDING AND TAXI LED LIGHTING - INSTALLATION) for LED light installation...
Interestingly it currently only applies to a single S/N (50500025) which was a previously written off plane last registered to a parts company (Dodson International Parts)... So is it now a development mule for Embraer?
Either way it will be nice to have some improved lights. Of course just after I bought the Boombeam STC...

We did the 4 light drop in kit in 2020 and they’re still going strong. Lighting level is improved but still not the greatest. Had to have two of the reflectors replaced during annual maintenance due to heat damage. The good thing with the 4 light kit is they use the stock housings/reflectors/lenses so we were able to get them replaced under EEC.

Was the heat damage due to the original light source or the LED kit?

Just to be clear, the Boombeam kit is HID, not LED. They come with a 5 year warranty.
In theory, an LED kit with reasonable cooling could last the life of the plane.

That makes sense, LED Is significantly cooler operating temperature compared to HID.

Just received an email from Embraer as many of you probably did. This was in it regarding LED landing/taxi light upgrade.

I can't wait to see how much they'll charge us to fix the (Username Protected)gerously dim lighting that came from the factory.

Also reference the STC'd HID lighting system from Whelan Aerospace (WAT). Cannot understand why Embraer's engineers think the currently provided under-powered landing and taxi lighting is acceptable for a plane of this level. Probably for the same reason they are still supplying GIL batteries and not Concorde!

(Username Protected), please tell us more about the system. Is it supported by Embraer? Are they contemplating upgrading the existing underpowered landing and taxi lights? Thank you.

Hey (Username Protected)! How are you.

    Good afternoon.

This system was developed by Embraer, exclusively for the aftermarket. It's an SB that costs US$38,000 and could replace the current landing and taxi lights. Once purchased by the operator, the system will be covered by the Executive Care program (coverage for breakdowns during use and replacement of lamps when they stop working).
