07-09-2024, 05:15 PM #1Parts Availability
I’ve seen numerous messages here about having to wait for extended periods for parts. In some cases resulting in the aircraft being grounded. I’m about to enter into a purchase contract for a new 300E amd am having second thoughts. I’d appreciate hearing what’s going on from owners and operators perspective because the sales staff minimizes the issue. Thanks!

07-10-2024, 09:25 AM #2There is a Shortage/Supply problem. A friend operating a 400 hour 300E had to fight/wait 3.5 weeks for a wheel/tire build up under warranty. The List of folks waiting on AC Units is growing daily. At least EMB is giving extensions now on the Units. Go in with your eyes open - the customer service you receive once operating will NOT be the same as you recieve when they are trying to get you to sign on the dotted line. Great Plane. Horrible Service. Crappy Corporate Structure.

07-10-2024, 02:42 PM #5Thanks for letting me know about Textron. I was considering a CJ4 as an alternative but prefer the Phenom for many reasons. Do you know if Pilatus is affected in the same way?

I have a lot of hours in the CJ4. It's a great plane but the market has spoken and the 300 is the clear winner.
I don't have any direct experience operating the PC-24 but its a relatively small fleet with less than 250 currently in service (in production since 2016) so you will be limited in terms of number of pilots/mechanics that are trained in it. I believe the 24 is somewhat payload limited but I would need to check the flight planning guide. Will your mission require the large cargo door or off pavement ops? -

Have been operating our 300E in Honduras, Central America. Had our issues but all resolved in a timely manner by EMB.
Chris Grinnell has been backing us since day one, and has been an excellent consultor and when in need he has provided invaluable knowledge on the aircraft. -

i can’t speak to the PC-24, but I have not experienced any significant part issues with my PC-12. I asked my SC if they were having parts shortages and they said other than the PPG windshields, they were almost always able to find a part in no more than a few days.
I haven’t heard any complaints from the POPA community regarding PC-24 parts, but that might not be determinative. If you get serious about a PC-24, I can ask around.
More generally, Pilatus is an excellent company and is very customer service focused. Their top people their have told me on several occasions that current owners are by far their best salespeople, so it just makes good business sense to keep them happy.
Another data point you could check is the Professional Pilot magazine annual customer service survey. It seems to be a reasonably good indicator. -

07-11-2024, 01:25 PM #11Hey, all, new here, and my background is mostly Beechcraft/Hawker and Cessna, but I look forward to learning more about these a/c, especially the Phenom 300. I have experience in the Premier and Beechjet, and also have worked, post flying career, in the parts sales industry. I can hear the collective groans, lol, but am very familiar with the supply issues mentioned here. First, and foremost, I want to be 100% transparent....I work for JSSI Parts and Leasing as the Senior Product Line Rep for Textron Airframe, but am not here on their behalf or as a representative in this capacity. This is a knowledge based journey for me, and, as a CFI/CFII/MEI, and as a former Sim/Ground/Flight Instructor for FlightSafety, I am a bit of a technical nerd and I consume all things IPC/AMM/Tech Pubs related. Our company recently took ownership of a Phenom 300 for teardown (much like the aforementioned Aerospace Turbine Rotables....great company and great group of people as mentioned) and, although not "good" to hear the comments in this thread about AOGs and parts availability and scarcity, it is good to know that it's known and being talked about at every level, as it affects everyone from dispatch to maintenance to flight crews, obviously. With all that (Username Protected)-winded introduction being said, are any of those here that are pilots or close to the flight department that participate in the procurement of parts for their aircraft. I was Chief Pilot at the last company I worked for, which also was an aircraft parts supplier, formerly GlobalParts, now VSE Aviation, and it was a simple one aircraft operation. However, I was directly involved with the maintenance and procurement of the parts used on our aircraft. That meant actively knowing how to use ILS, Partsbase, etc and also knowing how to know which vendors actually have usable parts on hand and which are BS listings and time wasters. In that context, with the parts shortages and lead times OEMs are seeing, are you using alternative methods of supply, and what are your thoughts in general about 3rd party suppliers that are buying a/c, tearing them down, and selling into the market? Is this a good thing, or do you have thoughts in opposition? I am DIRECTLY and DAILY involved, so my views are bit biased, but I also am aware of the price gouging and shady practices that are possible when AOG's and shortages are occurring. Again, happy to be here and am willing to help in any way I can, personally, based on my experiences in this area.

07-17-2024, 10:36 AM #12I operate both Phenom 300 and PC24’s on a daily basis. I can say the supply issues are ac(Username Protected) the industry (Boeing and Airbus are equally hamstrung) and are invariably a subcontractor issue. The 300 fleet might perceptually be a little more affected at the moment as there’s nothing like a lack of air conditioning during the summer to grab everyone’s attention. Also, it is a larger fleet to service compared to the number of airframes on the PC24. That being said I had the VCS fail on both airframes, the PC24 was replaced immediately and we’re still in the cue with everyone else with the Phenom… Happy to discuss operational details of either airframe.

07-17-2024, 11:43 AM #13(Username Protected)... I'm probably less than a year from. buying a phenom 100. I'm going to be an owner operator and likely will not have it on an engine and airframe program.... Can you tell me if this is going to present a problem for me for parts?
That is, Am I going to be facing additional challenges because I'm not on a program trying to obtain parts? -

08-02-2024, 04:36 PM #15Hi (Username Protected), I'm jumping in here unannounced having come ac(Username Protected) your email. Just to let you know I work for SMR Technologies, Ice Shield Deicing Division. We have recently developed the replacement Silver deice boots that come on the Phenom 100. It is a better replacement for what you currently have on the aircraft from the factory. Construction and performance is notably better. We have availability within just a few days if our Distributors do not have them on the shelf. Just wanted to let you know we have you covered there if needed. Best regards, (Username Protected)
