Mackinac Island visit...
I'm headed to Mackinac Island in June and I'm curious if others have had experience with a Phenom in there.
In particular, it looks like there is pretty limited parking on the large-airplane side of the ramp and I'm wondering how likely it will be to be full. Also pretty limited maneuvering space there and I'm guessing they don't have a tug.
Yes... I'm aware the runway is short... dry weather only. -

I’ve been there in a Lancair. It’s short, and the runway has a significant crown to it. You can’t see the one end upon touchdown due to the crown. So just get on the brakes hard. There is next to zero support if my memory serves me right. You may need to pop the nose gear scissor and turn the plane to align with parking.
Personally, I wouldn’t bring a Phenom into there. But that’s my opinion. -

You shouldn't have a problem. There are two sides of the ramp and one is typically reserved for larger airplanes. Obviously July is the busiest month of the year, so might be best to call prior to departure and confirm.
Had our 100 in there last year. Fun trip! -

05-29-2024, 09:24 AM #4Looks quite doable. I've definitely been to places with smaller ramps and no services. I think the biggest issue is going to be congestion if you show up on a saturday or sunday mid-morning/lunch with all the day trippers flying in and clogging the ramp. Hopefully you'll have a brave body on board you can kick out with some ear plugs on to help wing-walk you if it's crowded, and just be prepared to launch somewhere else if the ramp is chaos.
They have to have some sort of atten(Username Protected)t there that you could talk to before you launch for a ramp status too.

Bottom line, I'd totally do it, just not arrive at a peak time. -

Hey (Username Protected),
I’ve flown the straight 300 into Mackinac Island a few times for work. Definitely a dry only runway, but easily done. The jet ramp was tight and the park ranger “marshaller” wasn’t much help in terms of wing walking. Would've been a real challenge if we were single pilot getting through the gauntlet. It’s hard to know whether or not it will be full, a quick phone call prior to arrival may be beneficial. Zero services there other than someone to tell you where to generally park and take your money. You will be lucky to even get a set of chocks. They use a noise abatement procedure as well. Don’t overfly the shoreline or the resort. PLN is an easy stop on the way out to get fuel. That’s about all I can think of. -

Touching down in first few hundred and easily stopped half way down. And as for parking, agree on positioning. Best part is landing in a Jet and being taken the Grand Hotel in a Horse drawn Carriage.

Just a quick follow-up, I had a fantastic trip to Mackinac Island. No issues getting in or out. The side of the ramp for large planes was pretty much empty the whole week from Monday to Friday. I saw a few transient Jets come in and out. Fun place to visit, highly recommended. Just have a backup if it's raining!
