Holiday season and International Airports and Airspace

    Tis the season…

As the holidays season rapidly approaches, pilots should be aware that during this time of year parking becomes a major issue at a number of popular foreign destinations. The most common destinations that restrict parking during this time frame are:
    Puerto Vallarta (MMPR)
    Merida (MMMD)
    Los Cabos (MMSD)
    Grand Cayman (MWCR)
    Liberia, Costa Rica (MRLB)
    San Jose, Costa Rica (MROC)

This year, we are hearing rumblings that the list is expected to grow and that Cancun (MMUN) and Cozumel (MMCZ) may also start restricting overnight parking.

In addition, we can expect to see NOTAMs prohibiting General Aviation arrivals during certain time periods, ATC delays or the implementation of slots for arrivals. The usual suspects there are:
    Nassau, Bahamas (MYNN)
    Cancun (MMUN)
    Grand Cayman (MWCR)
    Provo, Turks and Caicos (MBPV)

If you are planning an international trip this holiday season, you should pay special attention to NOTAMs. If you are using a Ground Handling company, they should be able to give you more timely information including issues that may not yet have turned into a NOTAM. We recommend that you have a contingency plan in place to be able to adapt to whatever possible restrictions are in place.
