    G3000 GIA failures

    Hello,
We have had 3 GIA failures in the past 12 months; has anyone else experienced issues with GIA’s this much? Is there anything I can do? We have owned a previous 100, then a 300 and now back to a 100 and I can only recall one prior GIA failure ( in the 300).

    Thanks, (Username Protected).

    Hi (Username Protected).

I've gone through 5 GIAs on my 100EV. The last replacement was installed by Chris Grinnell from AeroStar Aviation on 2/15 and I think he solved problem. This replacement GIA was ordered from Garmin inventory and not Embraer inventory. I think the one's in the Embraer parts pool have some sort of problem. I've been tracking my failed GIA serial numbers - maybe you got one of mine - I hope not.

    2DL003745
2DC000700 (went through 4 replacement units to get a working one installed)
    2DC003581
    2DC002588
    2DC004093

I'd immediately fly the jet to Chris and have him take a look!

Looking at your serial numbers, I see that we also had #4093 installed on our aircraft in June of last year; it lasted 2 flights before it failed.

I got #4093 installed on 11/11/2021 and it lasted 3 months.

Thanks for sending that dog over to me!

I am sorry you got that one; I wonder if they track serial numbers with failure rates, at least 3 with that sn.
I could not get Embraer parts to ship me a unit with any kind of speed, so I flew to Florida and went to the parts warehouse and picked it up myself (SN 3513); we’ll find out on Monday if it works.

Putting bad parts back into spares inventory is an ongoing serious problem at Embraer. I've had this happen several times in my 100 with FCSOVs. I will no longer accept a "no trouble found" part. It either has to be new or overhauled before its going in my plane.

Previous corporate operator I worked for had a lot of issues with receiving turned in cores that bench tested good. Our DOM had to put his foot down and refused anything that didn't have an 8310 stating overhauled or new. They caused single issues to turn into compound problems. This should never be happening. If a part is repeatedly causing the same failure on one aircraft, without fail it should be overhauled before it ever has the chance to be put on another.

Replacement unit is working fine so far; I had a trip yesterday and will have another tomorrow. Hopefully it will continue to work.
