    Don't loose your unlock cards!

    Hey all,

We currently have two Phenoms under contract. During the pre purchase inspection on one of the aircraft, we identified that the binder with all the unlock cards is missing... depending on what unlocks you have, this can be a pricey problem to solve.

I bring this up for two reasons. First, they aren't required unless you need to reload the Garmin software (either due to component failure or upgrade to NXi), so they are easy to forget about. Second, the shop (a reputable Embraer shop) didn't include looking for them in the pre purchase inspection work scope. I'm assured that they will be adding it to their work scope moving forward.

It goes to show that even using a reputable shop for the inspection, it's easy for things to get missed. We use a checklist for all our deals. It's a living document that has now been through hundreds of transactions and to this day we still have things come up that result in updates to the process.

After some further research, it appears that you can order new cards from Garmin for $300 each. The catch is that you have to show proof that the cards were previously purchased.

Dont they register which serial numbers the cards for for? Also, isn't there some kind of entry in the logs?

We used the logbook entry as proof of purchase, but apparently Garmin does not track the cards to the specific serial number.
