    STAR VNAV Step Downs

I recently flew the CAVLR3 arrived into Dulles, and noticed that even with NXi the VNAV stepdowns on this arrival are right at the bottom of the altitude constraint window. For example at KHOOD you can cross between FL220 and 14,000, but the FMS put me right at 14,000. BNTLY is above/at 13,000 but put my right at that altitude.

One way to fix this is to go in and simply delete the loaded VNAV altitude restrictions, and the FMS will calculate a new descent path based on your FPA. Below you can see that I now would pass KHOOD at 17,500, and still meet all the other restrictions. It is up to the pilot to confirm the new altitude calculations meets the STAR restrictions.

For an even steeper descent, I dialed the FPA up to -4 degrees. I would now cross KHOOD at FL201 and still met the other restrictions.

In the end maybe to much effort to save just a few gallons
